  Over thirty years international fresh produce experience in production, post-harvest, sales, marketing, logistics, procurement and distribution of fruits and vegetables in the NAFTA countries. Selected Accomplishments

Joint Venture Set Up
Established a strategic alliance with selected Mexican vegetable growers and a leading California produce company. Instrumental in creating a crop diversification program and introducing state-of-the-industry agricultural production in Mexico. Planned and managed integral logistics and vegetable production, harvesting, pre-cooling, and transportation of produce to the U.S., Canada, Japan and the UK.

Marketing and Distribution Management
Instrumental in the introduction of US grown Russet potatoes for the first time in the Mexican northern border cities as first phase of a USDA-SAGARPA Protocol. Introduced first time ever iceberg lettuce and other year long California-grown products to the largest Mexican retailers. Obtained and managed product importation and phytosanitary permits from Mexican Department of Agriculture authorities before the NAFTA.

Strategic Marketing
As President and General Manager of one of the largest produce companies in the US-Mexico border region, increased gross supermarket revenue from 29% to 52% of total sales over a two-year period. During same time period, reduced the broker sales percentage of total sales from 29% to 18%. Identified, developed, and implemented new business opportunities to diversify and differentiate the company’s new value-added products while strengthening the core business.

Operations Planning and Control
Responsible for managing all agribusiness functions, including planning harvest schedules, grower contracting, sales and marketing, accounting, human resources and shipping/receiving of a large diversity of fruits and vegetables. Directed packing and post harvest infrastructure in growing regions throughout Mexico to assure food safety and quality.

Professional Achievements
Pioneered the introduction in Mexico of NutriClean, a third party certification program in the late 80’s. Awarded and recognized by Mexican Customs Department (SHCP) for modernizing customs systems at the border. Conceived and developed first-time agro-maquiladora of fresh vegetables in Mexico.

Government Marketing Strategies
Served as a Cabinet Member for the State of Sonora. Responsible for promoting foreign investments in agribusiness, aquaculture, and manufacturing. Designed marketing models to increase export programs for Mexican producers. Coordinated financial matters with Mexico’s largest banks. Organized trade missions to the Pacific Rim, Europe and Central America. Served as Mexico’s representative at North American Agricultural Marketing Officers Organization (NAAMO).

Public Relations
Have delivered presentations to several PMA and UFFVA events, and to UCLA, Monterrey Tec, ANTAD, LaSalle University and other institutions as well. Quoted and interviewed in The Packer, The Produce News and other industry publications.
